Co-author of State and Local Taxation: Principles and Planning Second Edition is currently the director of ASU's Master of Accountancy and Master of Taxation programs and teaches in those programs as well as the MBA and PhD programs. Professor Gupta earned his Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in accounting and auditing from Bombay University (India), Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Calcutta University (India), a Master of Accountancy from Bowling Green State University, and his Ph.D. in accounting with an emphasis in taxation from Michigan State University. He also holds professional certifications as a CPA (Ohio) and as an associate member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He is a member of the National Tax Association, the American Accounting Association and its special interest section on taxation. Professor Gupta’s primary research interests are in the areas of corporate and individual tax policy issues. His research in the area of state corporate income tax policies has been published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the National Tax Journal and the Journal of the American Taxation Association (JATA). He has also been published in the Accounting Review, the Journal of Law and Economics, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and Tax Notes. Professor Gupta was the 1993-94 Price Waterhouse Fellow in Taxation, one of two fellowships awarded nationally each year. He is also a multiple recipient of nationally competitive Ernst & Young Tax Research Grants. In 2000 he received the Arizona Society of CPAs Accounting Education Innovation Award. He has consulted for the international and national public accounting firms, Motorola, and Charles River Associates.
